How does it work… The act of writing is a complex network of muscles,nerves and synaptic pathways all firing in a specific predictable sequence movement. It is a series of pen marks involving rhythm, speed, pressure, direction,etc. Handwriting itself captures and holds on paper the slightest motor impulse of the writer with many contributing factors – most of them unconscious. We do not write with hand alone, but with brain, muscles and nerves which, in turn, react to conscious, subconscious and emotional stimuli. Handwriting is referred to as “ brain writing”. Although as children we are taught to form letters, according to an established pattern ( often chosen by our teachers, school system, or culture ). Each of us develops his/her own individually stylized script. It also explains the incredible diversity of handwriting…No two peoples script is exactly the same. GraphoTherapy originally grew from the logic that because handwriting is a subsconscious act, it provides the most direct route back to the subconscious — that mysterious force which runs each of us. When we voluntarily decide to change a stroke in our handwriting through repetitive exercise, we are actually affecting the corresponding character based on the neural pathway the thought is travelling upon. Based on neuroscience, we physically alter the specific neural-pathway inside your brain. If we persist, a new pathway is formed,thus the old thought pattern begins to atrophy and the new thought pattern takes over.
